From health copywriting to website content and patient leaflets, here’s a peek at the different things I can do for your business:

Health writing for your website

You’re a passionate believer that what you do helps the world be a better, healthier place. You’ve got decades of study and expertise behind you. So how do you shout about this in your website without sending your visitors scurrying?

Even if the real value of your business is in its people and products, an enticing website filled with great content is still a must-have. It builds confidence with your current clients, and reaches out to new ones. So if you’re getting nowhere with that first draft, why not let me help?

Whether you need a single page or an entire website, I’ll research and tell your unique story in the words that are right for you and your brand. I’ll write crisp, fresh content that inspires action, and avoids noisy health hype. I’ll research keywords for SEO, and package it all with intriguing headlines, captions and meta to make sure your hard work can be found by the right people.

My health writing process

Step 1: RESEARCH

We'll have a conversation about the project and once we're both happy, I'll provide you with a quote. I'll also send a questionnaire that helps me get to the heart of who you are, and your ideal readers. That way, we both know who I'm writing for - and you've got a useful marketing document that you can use however you like, too. We'll also sort out a provisional calendar.

Step 2: WRITE

I'll get in touch early to check you like the direction I'm going in. I'll then provide a first draft based on your requests, that captures your important messages and branding. It will be optimised for both your users and for search engines with catchy headlines, keywords and useful information, all written in the words your readers actually use. Plus I'll craft the meta data for each page to help the right people find you, and provide clear instructions for how the content should appear on the page (I can also help you with publishing if you require). For large projects, a copy map is included as standard.

Step 3: EDIT

You'll have time to review this draft according to our calendar, and make up to two rounds of revisions included within my fee.

Health copywriting

Does the idea of marketing make you want to run a mile? Me too.

Sometimes, though, you’ve got a service or produce that’s just too good to keep quiet about – and that’s when a writer with experience in health copywriting comes in. I’ll never be pushy, overblown or full of shiny but unsubstantiated promises. My motto is don’t sell… show.

I do this through a careful research process. By really getting to know your product – and who it’s for – I can tell the story behind the science and highlight its uniqueness in just a few words, all while showing your customers the respect and understanding they deserve.

Step 1: RESEARCH

We'll have a conversation about the project and once we're both happy, I'll provide you with a quote. I'll also send my health copywriting questionnaire that helps me get to the heart of who you are, and your ideal customers. That way, I know who I'm writing for - and you've got a useful marketing document for your product, too. We'll also sort out a provisional calendar.

Step 2: WRITE

I'll provide a first draft based on your requests, that captures your unique selling points, important information and really nails your brand's vibe. If it's a lengthy project, I'll also send you a sample at the start of my writing process. For online health copywriting, the first draft will be completely optimised for your users and for search engines with catchy headlines, keywords and useful information, all written in the words your readers actually use. Plus I'll craft the meta data to help the right people find your product.

HEALTH BLOG WRITING

We all know there’s so much health information out there, so why should you add to the noise? And what’s in it for you, to give away your expertise for free?

Here are a few reasons why quality health blogs matter for all health businesses, and why nobody is too ‘sciencey’ to benefit from a blog:

  • Google loves a regularly updated blog, which is great news if you’re trying to reach new people
  • Regularly updating your blog is an opportunity to show your commitment to service
  • Your health blog can provide the credible, tailored health information you know people are looking for and answer common questions
  • Blogging establishes your unique expertise and builds your brand identity
  • Your health blog will create a community of people who love what you do and will be your best advocates, online and off

The downside? Blogging takes time to plan, research, write, edit and optimise for SEO. And that’s why it makes sense to let a professional take it off your hands.

My blog writing process

Step 1: RESEARCH

We'll have a conversation about your blog including how many posts you'd like, what content you need to cover and your ideal word length. Once we're both happy, I'll provide you with a quote and some initial content ideas if you like. I'll also send a questionnaire that helps me get to the heart of who you and your customers are. We'll also sort out a provisional calendar and editorial schedule.

Step 2: WRITE

I'll provide a first draft based on your requests, that delights readers and captures your important messages and branding. It will be completely optimised for your users and for search engines with catchy headlines, keywords and useful information, all written in the words your readers actually use. Plus I'll craft the meta data for each page to help the right people find you. I can do this separately for each blog post, in batches (recommended) or once I've completed a first draft of every post.

Step 3: EDIT

You'll have time to review this draft according to our calendar, and make up to two rounds of revisions. I'll publish your blog to your site and social media if you want me to - and even if not, I'll make sure you've got any meta tags, images or other support you need.

FEATURE WRITING & CASE STUDIES

As a professional journalist for over 10 years, I’ve interviewed everyone from government ministers to health workers, and from nationally renowned athletes to Donna, a full-time carer who took up walking, lost 9st and discovered her own life was absolutely worth being fit and healthy for.

I believe that great health features provide really useful information, in a really readable form. By energising and uplifting, feature articles and ‘I did it’ case studies are a really delightful way in which health information percolates into people’s lifestyles (and not just for the already converted!).

I’ve written for magazines and newspapers in the UK and Australia. Topics I’m passionate about include, but aren’t limited to:

  • Maternal and postnatal health
  • Anxiety and depression
  • Fitness and exercise science
  • Running, cycling and climbing
  • Parenting
  • Weight loss

My health feature process

Step 1: RESEARCH

You'll provide me with a brief (or I can send you a questionnaire) and a sample of the tone you like and deadline(s). I'll then research the topic thoroughly, including reading recent research and identifying experts for interviews.

Step 2: WRITE

I'll provide a first draft based on your requests. If it's for the web, it will be fully optimised for search engines.

Step 3: EDIT

I'll happily make up to two rounds of revisions within the agreed article fee.

BROCHURES, LEAFLETS & PATIENT INFORMATION

Are your brochures and patient leaflets filling up bins all over your home town? Want them on fridges or beside the phone instead?

Even in our digital world, there’s nothing like a printed leaflet to present information in an instant. And for many people who can’t access the internet, they’re still absolutely vital.

I can work with a designer to write print materials, or provide a complete design and content package – just drop me a line and we can discuss.

HEALTH EDITING & PROOFREADING

Sometimes your content is already good to go… almost. All it needs is a bit of extra sparkle. I have more than six years’ experience editing in the health and fitness field, working on the UK’s third-highest selling magazine. I can completely revitalise and declutter old content, or just give it a final polish and update it for SEO – it’s up to you.
I also have over eight years of proofreading experience.

My health editing process

Step 1: REQUIREMENTS

I'll provide you with an estimate of how long your project will take and my hourly rates, so there are no surprise bills. If you feel your content needs substantial rewriting, I'll also send a questionnaire to complete about your project aims, your brand and voice. We'll also sort out provisional deadlines.

Step 2: EDIT

I'll provide my edited content in a format we've agreed, with clear instructions for how it should look on the page. If it's for the web, it will be fully optimised for the web (including keyword research) and ready to go straight to your webmaster, or I can help you with publishing too if you'd like. For large projects, I'll also provide a copy map.

Step 3: PROOFREADING

I routinely proofread all my own work for accuracy, grammar and spelling before I send it to you. I'm also happy to proofread your projects. Please get in touch if you'd like to have a conversation about this.
